Pipers Silks was first
established by Jack Piper
over 30 years ago but is now
run solely by his daughter
Susan Peck who for many
years worked alongside her
father. Jack was a
re-knowned silk throwster
who was responsible for the
production of silk threads
for weaving the silk used to
make the wedding gowns of
Princess Anne and Princess
Diana. This small business is
based in Suffolk which is
the foremost area of silk
production in the UK.
Our silk history reaches way
back through many
generations; our ancestors
were silk velvet weavers in
the old Spitalfields of
London. Susan was born and
lived in the silk mill house
of the local silk throwsters
in Glemsford, Suffolk, where
her father Jack, who had
succeeded his father to
become the manager, lived
with his family having moved
there at the age of 13!
Silk was indeed a family
affair as Susan’s mother and
grandmother were both silk
weavers and her sister and
extended family were all
silk throwsters.
From the early days, Pipers
Silks has always offered a
friendly, customer-focused
service to ensure that they
provide the right threads to
produce excellent results
that their many talented
customers can treasure.
We provide our silk threads
to meet customers’ exact
requirements. We will supply
to order and will provide
the silks threads required
to reproduce a design or
pattern from the many
publications that recommend
the use of ‘Pipers Silks’.
We also provide a colour
matching service.
Our knowledge of silk is
second to none and we are
always happy to advise and
answer queries from
customers.
To provide customers the
opportunity to see for
themselves the extensive
range of silks in full
colour, we exhibit at the
Annual Christmas Lacemakers’
Fair at
Cranmore Park, in
December each year. |
