The Spun Silk yarns are made from pieces of cocoons that have been shed during the preparation of the original continuous filament yarn. The small pieces of fibre are brushed and twisted together to form a thread as in cotton spinning. However it still has a smooth, silky texture and a matt sheen.

Spun silks can also be used for embroidery where a soft muted effect is required and they are used widely in lace patterns. 80/3 Spun Silk is often used in Milanese designs and is a popular choice for needle lace.

The finer spun silks are used for knitting silk miniatures.
