It was back in 1979 that Piper Silks, then known as J & E Piper, was formed by Jack Piper. During the last 27 years Pipers Silks have built up a solid reputation for reliability and specialist knowledge of the silks that we sell. Our silks have been used in lace and embroidery, conservation and restoration and numerous other textile projects. We specialise in fine threads for miniature work and floss embroidery. A popular use for twisted silks is the whipping silk used in the restoration of split cane fishing rods. We export throughout the world, mainly due to our reputation for quality and specialist knowledge, which has been passed on through many generations. PIPERS SILKS offer their customers a very wide range of Pure Silk Threads in either continuous filament (gloss/nett) or spun silk yarns. Many yarns are not available in stores. These range from 30 denier, which is very fine for Honiton lace making to very thick 1200 denier. For embroidery we can offer our unique floss, twisted or folded (plied) silks, many of them twisted to our own specifications. Among our customers are well known authors and teachers and not least Sandi Woods, author of Special Effects in Bobbin Lace and Helen M Stevens, wildlife embroidery artist. All of Helen's books feature our floss silks. Many of Sandi's patterns can be worked with our 80/3 Spun Silk and 90/3 Gloss Silk. Our silks can be used by beginners to lace or embroidery as we have threads to suit different uses. Unfortunately, customers sometimes hesitate to use silk presuming the thread to be expensive or frail, it is neither. The range of silks competes very well with cottons and linens for prices and are extremely strong. Indeed, our Honiton threads are much sought after. PIPERS SILKS price list includes a comparison chart to enable you to convert your patterns from other threads to silks. PIPERS SILKS provide coloured silks and an excellent colour and thread matching service. We offer an efficient mail order service. However, each request is wound to order and although we will always try to do our best to ensure you have your silks for your class or project please note the delivery times as indicated on our 'Products & Prices' page. |
